Why modern brokerages switch to Always Beyond

You're paying for a Citrix environment because of one legacy app. Most of your team only opens a browser: truMarket, Outlook, quoting portals. But the whole office is still routed through a hosted Citrix desktop (latency, disk space warnings, thin clients, per-user monthly hosting fees) because Power Broker EDI downloads or Applied Rating Services still live on that server. We move everyone who doesn't need it onto modern managed laptops, and help you plan the day the last legacy app gets switched off.

Your BMS migration exposed how little support you actually get. Applied is sunsetting TAM. Brokers moving to truMarket, Epic, or another platform are discovering the hard parts: historical data imports that sit unloaded for months, syncs that never get configured, and hosting providers that go quiet after the invoice clears. You need an IT partner on your side of the table, keeping the modern environment solid and holding vendors accountable to their commitments.

Cyber insurance and compliance requirements keep tightening. You sell cyber policies, so your own security posture has to hold up (eat your own dog food). Carriers, regulators (RIBO in Ontario, AIC in Alberta, other provincial councils), and PIPEDA all expect MFA, encryption, tested backups, and documented controls. We keep you at a Microsoft Secure Score of 75+ (global average is 32) and answer the cyber insurance questionnaire with you.

"Our IT situation before Always Beyond was extremely reactive: things would break, the IT people would come try to fix it, there was downtime, and it was frustrating. And you never knew how much things were going to cost, because it was always reactive. Now, having a consistent bill every month makes planning so much easier, and things just always work. I don't want to think about IT, and now I don't have to."

The stack we support, and the one we help you leave

We support the modern brokerage stack end to end. If you're still partly on legacy tools, we help you plan the exit. We don't support or host the old environment itself.

What we support and manage

  • Trufla truMarket (BMS/CRM), truWeb, truMobile, Trudi AI
  • Microsoft 365 + SharePoint, Canadian data residency
  • Azure Entra ID + Intune-managed laptops
  • QuickBooks Online + Dext, Float
  • VoIP (Telus Business Connect / RingCentral)
  • Carrier and quoting portals (browser-based)

What we help you exit

  • Applied TAM (sunsetting) & TAM Cloud
  • Power Broker (Acturis)
  • Applied Rating Services desktop quoting
  • Vertafore SIG / sigXP
  • TBW: The Broker's Workstation (Rival)
  • Hosted Citrix desktops, thin clients, on-prem servers

Your current provider keeps responsibility for these until decommission. We plan the timing, the sequence, and everything on the modern side.

Who we work with

Always Beyond's sweet spot is independent P&C brokerages with 10–250 staff, anywhere in Canada, supported remote-first out of our Calgary head office. That includes brokerages that have adopted (or are adopting) truMarket, Epic, or another modern cloud BMS and want IT that actually matches it, along with broker groups, networks, and holding companies standardizing IT, cybersecurity, and E&O across member brands, using a master tenant, per-brand tenants, and a minimum-standards playbook for onboarding new members.

If you've got a principal who'd rather not deal with tech, we explain every recommendation in plain terms, documented for compliance reviewers and carriers, not written for other IT people.

Getting off Citrix, cleanly

This is the part no generic MSP page says out loud. We manage the modern environment and the plan. Your current host keeps the legacy environment until it's shut down for good.

1
Audit

We find out who actually still uses the legacy apps. Usually it's a handful of people (reception running EDI processing, the bookkeeper, commercial lines) while everyone else is already living in a browser.

2
Move the browser-only staff

Corporate laptops, Intune-managed, encrypted, MFA-enforced, fully supported by us. Over four years, a managed laptop typically costs about the same as monthly hosted-desktop fees, or less. Leasing is an option if that helps the cash flow.

3
Right-size what's left

Your legacy host keeps a smaller Citrix footprint for the remaining legacy-app users. That stays their responsibility, not ours. We make sure phones, audio, identity, and email work seamlessly for everyone through the transition.

4
Decommission

When your BMS covers the last workflow (say, truMarket's quoting and EDI replacing Applied Rating Services and Power Broker), we track the vendor roadmap with you, time the cutover, and take over IT for the whole team.

Switching without disrupting your renewal cycle

The transition runs over about 4 weeks. Weeks 1–2 are documentation, with your current provider still in place. Weeks 3–4, we cut over email and identity, then file storage and your BMS, then endpoints. Your old provider stays on as a fallback the whole time, and we time the switch around your renewal-heavy periods rather than in the middle of one. Month-to-month the whole way through, with no multi-year commitment to sign just to get started.

Insurance-Brokerage IT Questions, Answered

1
What IT does a modern insurance brokerage actually need?

A browser-first stack (truMarket, quoting portals, email), MFA and identity management, phishing-tuned email security, encrypted Canadian backups, and compliance documentation your regulator or carrier can actually read.

2
We still have a few users on Power Broker or Citrix. Can you help?

Yes, with a plan. We manage the modern environment for everyone and map the phased exit for the rest. We don't support or host the legacy environment itself; your current host keeps that until decommission.

3
How do we get off our hosted Citrix desktop?

Audit who actually needs it, move everyone else to managed laptops, right-size what's left with your current host, then decommission once your BMS covers the last workflow. See "Getting off Citrix, cleanly" above for the full playbook.

4
Applied is sunsetting TAM. What are our options?

Epic, truMarket, and a few others, depending on your book of business. The real work is the migration itself: data exports, import verification, and usually a period running the old and new systems in parallel.

5
What do cyber insurance carriers require from brokerages?

MFA, endpoint detection, tested backups, and SOC monitoring, at minimum, and brokers get held to a slightly higher bar than most SMBs since you're the one selling the policy.

6
How do PIPEDA and provincial regulators (RIBO, AIC) affect our IT?

Client data residency, retention, breach notification, and documented controls. All of it needs to be in writing, not just in practice, for a practice review or a carrier audit.

7
What does managed IT cost for a Canadian brokerage?

Benchmark for brokerage-vertical managed IT in Canada runs roughly $150–$190 per user per month, all-in. Always Beyond's flat-fee model means no migration upcharges on top of that.

8
We're a broker group standardizing IT across member brands. Can you scale with us?

Yes, a master tenant with per-brand tenants underneath, consolidated or per-brand billing, and a minimum-standards playbook so each new member brand onboards the same way.
